What Is Bitcoin?

Bitcoin is a peer-to-peer currency built on a trustless, distributed ledger called the "blockchain." Bitcoin is the most popular digital currency and is held electronically. There is no central authority and it is created by the people, for the people.

What is Ethereum?

Ethereum is another cryptocurrency that aims to challenge the traditional ways we think of the Internet. Whereas Bitcoin is a hedge against banks and fiat currency, Ethereum is an attempt to decentralize the current client-server model that exists on the Internet today. Ethereum is more of a "crypto commodity" than a "currency." While Ethereum and it's distributed applications (dApps) still use blockchain technology to track transactions, these transactions are geared towards machine-to-machine payments.

What is Mining?

Cryptocurrency mining is the backbone of the blockchain. The miners are what generate new coins as well as verify transactions and secure the network. Miners are computers with extreme computing power that are continuously solving math problems. When a problem is successfully solved, the miner is rewarded with a "block reward." This is how transactions are verified on the network and new coins are added into circulation.
